Are you passionate about healthcare and public safety?

The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) exists to ensure the public receives safe healthcare by registering health practitioners who are suitably qualified and safe to practise. Public protection is the paramount objective in the National Scheme and appointing individuals with the attributes and capability that drive effective regulatory decision making is fundamental to fulfilling this purpose.

The Psychology Board of Australia (the Board) in partnership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) has established national committees to consider matters relating to individual practitioners, based on national policies and standards set by the Board.

Vacancies for practitioner members have arisen on the following committees:

  • Psychology Notifications and Compliance Committee
  • Psychology Notifications Committee: Assessment
  • Psychology Registration and Compliance Committee

Practitioner members demonstrate a strong connection to communities, an understanding of diverse patient needs across healthcare settings and apply a public interest approach and broad perspective to regulatory decision making, reflecting an understanding of public expectation. They have a strong connection to the psychology profession, with significant experience and knowledge to provide clinical insights and advice.

Location: Committee meetings are held online via Microsoft Teams.

Time commitment: Time commitment varies, approximately one to two days per month, including reading and preparation time.

Term of appointment: Appointments made by the Board and are for up to three years, with eligibility for reappointment. Positions commence in August 2026.

Remuneration: Full daily fee: Member - $768; Chair - $936. Half daily fee: Member - $384; Chair - $468. Quarter daily fee: Member - $192; Chair - $234. Government employees are bound by their employer policy regarding payment.

Eligibility: A person is eligible to be appointed as a practitioner member if they are a registered psychologist and practising in Australia. Employees and contractors for Ahpra are not eligible for these positions.

Training and development: Members will be provided with a comprehensive orientation program, cultural safety and governance training. Opportunities are provided for participation at conferences and professional development and networking activities.

Our commitment: The National Scheme has an important role in ensuring the development of a culturally safe and respectful health workforce that is responsive to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples health and contributes to the elimination of racism in the provision of health services. We have committed to increasing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leadership and voices and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are warmly invited to apply.

Effective boards and committees are composed of members with a broad range of skills, experience and backgrounds and we are committed to increasing diverse leadership and voices. We invite people to apply from diverse backgrounds, including those living in rural and remote areas in Australia, multicultural communities, those identifying as LGBTIQA+, different age groups and those living with a disability.
