Appointment to the Ahpra Board’s Accreditation Committee

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra)  works in partnership with 15 National Boards to regulate more than 96,000 registered health practitioners and over 180,000 registered students across 16 health professions.

Applications are sought from suitably qualified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples for appointment to the Ahpra Board’s Accreditation Committee (the Committee).

The Committee is responsible for providing independent and expert advice on accreditation reform and other National Scheme accreditation matters to National Scheme entities (National Boards, Accreditation Authorities and Ahpra) and other external entities performing accreditation functions as part of the National Scheme.

The Committee also plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Health Ministers’ responses to the recommendations of the Independent Review of Accreditation Systems Final Report and in progressing priority projects that will shape accreditation in the National Scheme.

Ahpra’s role is to protect the public by setting standards and policies that all registered health practitioners must meet.

Cultural safety in the National Law is part of those standards, providing an agreed definition in the codes of conduct for registered health practitioners.

Ahpra and the National Boards ensure the development of a racism free, culturally safe and respectful health workforce for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples accessing and working in healthcare.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples ways of being, knowing and doing are central to dismantling all forms of racism, systemic, institutional, and interpersonal in healthcare.

Ahpra and the National Boards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Anti-Racism Policy is a significant milestone in enacting our policy and legislative commitment to eliminating racism and ensuring culturally safe workplaces and healthcare. This policy has been developed by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to create a safe, valued, and respectful environment within Ahpra and the National Boards.

Ahpra and National Boards invite Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to apply to help shape heath regulation and eliminate racism.

The National Scheme is also committed to providing an environment that embraces and values equity, diversity and inclusion. We strongly encourage people of all abilities and backgrounds to apply, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, culturally diverse people, people with a disability, carers of a person with a disability, people living in rural or remote areas of Australia and people who identify as LGBTIQA+. If you need an adjustment or support during the recruitment process, we encourage you to advise us at the time of application.

Applications will be assessed by a selection advisory panel and appointments will be for a three-year term, with eligibility for reappointment.

More information about the role, eligibility requirements and the application process can be found in the Information guide and the Committee's Charter.
