The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) regulates more than 960,000 registered health practitioners and over 180,000 registered students across 16 health professions. 15 health profession boards and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) work together to deliver the National Scheme.
Vacancies for medical practitioner members in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory are arising on the State and Territory Boards of the Medical Board of Australia
Our medical practitioner members provide important expertise and input from their health profession, helping ensure that safe practice standards are maintained.
Position details: The State and Territory Boards work in partnership with Ahpra to make notifications (complaint) and registration decisions about individual practitioners, based on national policies and standards set by the Medical Board of Australia. We are seeking medical practitioners with an ability and interest to contribute to the regulatory work of the State and Territory Boards. Notifications are not managed in NSW due to co-regulatory arrangements. There are also Chair vacancies.
Committee membership: Committee membership will vary. The roles may include membership of notifications, immediate action and registration committees. Members may also have the opportunity to be appointed to national committees.
Location: Meeting attendance is flexible. Some meetings are held in person in the relevant Ahpra office and some meetings will be held online via Microsoft Teams.
Time commitment: Time commitment will vary. Approximately two to four days per month, in addition to any travel time to and from meetings.
Term of appointment: Appointments are made by the Minister for Health in the relevant jurisdiction and are for up to three years, with eligibility for reappointment. Positions commence in early/mid 2026.
Remuneration: Full daily fee: Member - $768; Chair - $936. Half daily fee: Member - $384; Chair - $468. Quarter daily fee: Member - $192; Chair - $234. Government employees are bound by their employer policy regarding payment.
Eligibility: A person is eligible to be appointed as a practitioner member if they hold current registration as a medical practitioner in Australia. It is expected that applicants practise and/or reside in the State or Territory in which they are applying for appointment. Employees and contractors for Ahpra are not eligible for these positions.
Training and development: A comprehensive orientation program and ongoing training is provided. Participation at conferences or planning days may be required. All members must attend cultural safety training delivered by Ahpra.
