The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) regulates more than 875,000 registered health practitioners and over 180,000 registered students across 16 health professions. 15 health profession boards and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) work together to deliver the National Scheme.

A vacancy for one practitioner member in New South Wales is arising on the New South Wales Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia

Our health practitioner members provide important expertise and input from their health profession, helping ensure that safe practice standards are maintained.

Position details: The State Board works in partnership with Ahpra to make registration decisions about individual practitioners, based on national policies and standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. We are seeking nurses and midwives with an ability and interest to contribute to the regulatory work of the State Board. There is also a Chair vacancy on the State Board.

Committee membership: Committee membership will vary. Members may also have the opportunity to be appointed to national committees.

Location: Meeting attendance is flexible. Some meetings are held in person in the Sydney office and some meetings will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

Time commitment: Time commitment will vary. Approximately two to three days per month, in addition to any travel time to and from meetings.

Term of appointment: Appointments are made by the Minister for Health in New South Wales and are for up to three years, with eligibility for reappointment. Positions commence in late 2025.

Remuneration: Full daily fee: Member - $736; Chair - $896. Half daily fee: Member - $368; Chair - $448. Quarter daily fee: Member - $184; Chair - $224. Government employees are bound by their employer policy regarding payment.

Eligibility: A person is eligible to be appointed as a practitioner member if they hold current registration as a nurse or midwife in Australia. It is expected that applicants practise and/or reside in New South Wales.

Training and development: A comprehensive orientation program and ongoing training is provided. Participation at conferences or planning days may be required. All members must attend cultural safety training delivered by Ahpra.
