The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) regulates more than 875,000 registered health practitioners and over 180,000 registered students across 16 health professions. 15 health profession boards and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) work together to deliver the National Scheme

Vacancies for practitioner members are arising on the state and territory boards of the Medical Board of Australia in the
Australian Capital Territory and Queensland

We are seeking individuals with an ability and interest to contribute to the regulatory work of the state and territory boards. Practitioners will bring sound experience in the relevant health profession and will have an appreciation and understanding of the role of delegated decision-making bodies in the National Scheme.

Position details: The state and territory boards work in partnership with Ahpra to make registration and notification (complaint) decisions about individual practitioners, based on national policies and standards set by the Medical Board of Australia.

Committee membership: Committee membership will vary. The roles may include membership of a registration, notifications and an immediate action committee. Members may also be appointed to national committees.

Location: Some board meetings are held in person at the relevant Ahpra office and board and committee meetings will also be held online via Zoom or TEAMS.

Time commitment: Time commitment will vary. Approximately two to three days per month, in addition to any travel time to and from meetings.

Term of appointment: Appointments are made by the relevant Minister for Health and are for up to three years, with eligibility for reappointment.

Remuneration: Full daily fee: Member - $716; Chair - $872. Half daily fee: Member - $358; Chair - $436. Quarter daily fee: Member - $179; Chair - $218. Government employees are bound by their employer policy regarding payment.

Eligibility: A person is eligible to be appointed as a practitioner member if they hold current registration as a medical practitioner in Australia. It is expected that applicants practise and/or reside in the state or territory in which they are applying for appointment and people from rural and regional areas are warmly invited to apply.

Training and development: Orientation program and ongoing training is provided. Participation at conferences or planning days may be required.
