Help shape health regulation and eliminate racism from healthcare!
The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) has an important role in ensuring the development of a culturally safe and respectful health workforce that is responsive to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples health and contributes to the elimination of racism in the provision of health services.
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the National scheme to regulate health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
Ahpra and the National Boards are determined to eliminate racism from the healthcare system and to achieve equity in health outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and other Australians. To do that, and provide culturally safe health practice, we need Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and voices embedded in the work of the National Boards and their committees.
We are seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples for potential appointment to Boards and Committees in the National Scheme. This talent pool of potential candidates will be reviewed and contacted when Board and Committee opportunities become available.
Your contribution to health practitioner regulation may involve:
- setting national standards of practice for the regulated health professions
- developing guidance for practitioners on their scope of practice
- making decisions about registering a practitioner or managing complaints/notifications about a practitioner’s health, performance or conduct, or
- other functions as needed by a National Board.
If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and would like to discuss potential opportunities, please email mobvoices@ahpra.gov.au.
